10 Beautiful Demos To Put On Your Wishlist (Next Fest June 2026 Edition)

There were a ton of demos to play during Steam's June Next Fest, over 4,200 to be exact. I managed to play through 50 demos myself, which felt like a lot but there were a lot of them that I didn't get to that I really would have liked to play. I'm sure others that dove head first into demos this time around feel a similar way, which is why I've made yet another Next Fest demos list. This list is to showcase some of the more visually unique or eye-catching demos that I personally got my hands on. There were, of course, a lot of visually beautiful demos that made it onto my top 15 demos list, however I couldn’t put every game on there so I made another list for games that I enjoyed chiefly for their visual styles.

While these games are predominantly on this list for their art design, I do think all of them were fun to play in their own right and highly suggest checking them out on your own and adding them to your wishlist. Many of the games on the list still have demos live at the time of writing so you can get your hands on them right now.

With all of the said, let's get into the games. This list isn't in any particular order like my top 15 list, it's just a set of recommendations in random order. Every single one of these demos were, in my opinion, visually stunning. In an era of AI slop everywhere I think it's ever important to applaud developers making truly beautiful and unique art work. And in an era where Steam Next Fest itself is riddled with GenAI that you can't even filter out, I think it's ever important to help recommend gorgeous, hand-made games to fellow gamers. So please, take a moment to check out a few of these games and add them to your wishlist. Let's support human made art.

OFFBEAT

OFFBEAT.png

OFFBEAT is an immersive music-tycoon game where you can produce full scale songs for clients in a guided story mode or for yourself, freeform and export them to use on your own personal projects. There are a multitude of unique instruments to unlock and learn how to use, all with a beautiful pixel style to accompany it. Complete musical commissions for increasingly large clients so you can buy your next music making device and expand the sounds you’re able to create. While I’m not a musician myself, I found this to be gently guided enough to introduce me to concepts I wasn’t fully aware of while also not holding my hand to the point I felt bored, annoyed, or limited in my creativity. Not only is the pixel art appealing and the instruments engaging, but the music you’re able to make sounds so good. Everything about the style of this game is off the charts.

if you stay

if i stay.png

if you stay is a relatively simple and short visual novel with a stunning and nostalgic art style. In a pixel style with anime art representative of the time period the story is taking place in, play as a teenage girl at the tail end of the 90s learning who she is and what she wants to do with the rest of her life. You're a closeted lesbian in a relationship with one of your classmates when you’re suddenly outed by one of your best friends. Kicked out of your home with nowhere to go and no home to welcome you in, you’ve decided to leave town in search of fame and glory. But how does your girlfriend feel about this? Will she convince you to stay? A touching story with some gorgeous art that brought me back to a bygone era. As if that weren’t good enough, the developer has stated this game will be FREE on release, so consider giving it a look.

Woodo

Woodo.png

Woodo is an isometric puzzle game described by the developers as “a coloring book you can touch”. Work through 3D wooden dioramas while a story about a young girl finding her voice during a particularly challenging summer plays out. Each new scene completed tells a story. Each story leads into the next diorama. Each diorama is completely made up with little wooden looking models. Find each and every place a wooden object belongs, slot it in like coloring a coloring book, and watch life return to the scene. Woodo is not only relaxing and cute, but absolutely beautiful and unique to look at.

Ambroise Niflette & the Gleaned Bell

Ambroise Niflette & the Gleaned Bell.png

Ambroise Niflette & the Gleaned Bell is a stop motion inspired detective game where you play as a small investigator looking into the case of a missing bell - the bell being the pride and joy of this small town. In a style not only inspired by stop motion but also clearly inspired by classic children’s toys, roam around a town full of toy-like characters, ask them questions, and uncover the drama that has led to this tragedy. The style in this game is absolutely to. die. for. The characters and the world they inhabit are completely committed to the style and it makes for an absolutely unforgettable visual experience. Alongside interesting writing and a satisfying mystery to uncover, this one certainly stood out from the crowd.

Astro Mouse

Astro Mouse.png

Astro Mouse is a desktop companion idler game where you watch over a little mouse on an alien planet as they scavenge for materials, outfits, and more. As you pick up items, unlock lore about the universe this little mouse inhabits, different planets you can journey to, and how to craft more useful items from the ones you’ve picked up. A very relaxing experience with tons to look at and a very cute and endearing character. I mostly picked this up and stayed for the visual style, but it also has some very nice features like full resizing of the idler on your desktop and free movement of the idler on your desktop, which aren't always common features for idlers/desktop companions. My only issue is that it could probably use a tutorial, but many things are answered within the UI if you explore enough.

Cutout Village

Cutout Village.png

Cutout Village is a paper craft city-builder where everything in game is literally printed, cut out, folded, and constructed in real life as assets for this game. Pick something to build, cut out the texture from a piece of paper (in game), fold on the dotted lines, glue everything together, and presto! Watch the inhabitants enjoy what you’ve built and welcome new villagers to town. Build more homes, trees, benches and so on as your town and demand grows. In addition, every time you’ve completed a new paper craft, unlock a PDF for said craft that you can print and build yourself in real life. Extremely cute and unique, albeit a bit glitchy in the demo state.

walk

walk.jpg

walk is a relaxing point and click puzzle game intended to inspire people to go outside and just… walk. Extremely simple, but also beautiful. Every puzzle, or interactive element, in walk is all about what you may come across while walking outside, across all seasons. A small bird that tweets, snow that builds into a snowman, a tree with blooming flowers, doors to enter, dogs to pet, cats to point at. While simple, I would be remiss if I said this game didn’t stick with me after playing it. With absolutely beautiful, simplistic art and a brilliantly reduced color palette, walk is a refreshing treat in a world filled to the brim with flashing lights.

Housekeeper: Anomaly

Housekeeper Anomaly.png

Housekeeper: Anomaly is a side scrolling survival horror game where you are seemingly trapped in a maze of never ending apartment hallways and rooms. Scavenge for literally anything you can get your hands on, but be careful, there’s a disease going around and you aren’t really even sure what causes it or what the symptoms are. Talk to neighbors, slip by anomalous entities, and try to remember some self care while you’re at it. This game is not only extremely mechanically deep but also truly visually stunning. Things are dark and confusing and the people are all wooden mannequins, at least visually. There’s so much to uncover here; be it gameplay, lore, or just more beautiful things to look at.

My Beautiful, Faraway, Please Don’t Be Cruel To Me

My Beautiful Faraway Please Dont Be Cruel To Me.png

My Beautiful, Faraway, Please Don’t Be Cruel To Me is a first person surrealist mystery game. Wake up… somewhere? A dream? Purgatory? You're not quite sure, as our main character doesn’t allude to much herself. Solve puzzles to progress the story, talk to strange inhabitants that seem to be going through quite a lot of personal strife, and try to solve their issues as you move through this transient place. Everything in My Beautiful, Faraway, Please Don’t Be Cruel To Me is desolate, grey, and vaguely macabre. The art style goes a long way to create a feeling of unease that is paramount to the game itself and I loved every moment of it.

Zwaard

Zwaard.png

Zwaard is an isometric action adventure where you make your way through desolate environments peppered with technology and decay. As you discover more of the world and fight through more of the enemies you’ll uncover lore that describes how the world ended up in this state. While I was a bit tepid on the combat in this game, feeling a bit laggy and sticky for my taste, the art is so genuinely gorgeous that I had to add it to this list. While the pixel art is beautiful and all the designs help feed into the lore, the UI is the major thing that made this game stand out to me. Every single bit of UI, from the inventory to the upgrade menu to even the objective list is absolutely breathtaking. I don’t know who they got to design their UI, but it’s beyond elevated and worth checking out for that element alone.

And there we have it - my 10 demos to recommend based on art style. I hope you found something on the list that you thought looked interesting. I have one more article of recommendations from Next Fest coming soon and then I promise I'll move on, but there were just so many wonderful demos that I had to suggest to people this time around.

During such a tumultuous period in gaming, I think it's more important than ever to support independent creatives. While there are many issues outside of our control, we can support this industry and the developers that make it all possible and it starts with a wishlist.
